Creative inspiration - 'Begin again'
Good music gives me goose bumps. It’s mine and Ian’s ‘thing’ and so when we sit down with a glass of wine to watch a film with music at the heart of the story, we both especially look forward to it.
I had mixed views about whether I would enjoy ‘Begin again’ though. Staring Adam Levine (Maroon 5), Kiera Knightly and Mark Ruffalo, I thought that the casting might feel a little ‘awkward’, but I was wrong and reached the credits feeling completely uplifted and inspired. I turned to Ian, saw that he had an equally big smile on his face and knew that this film would rapidly become one of our favourites.
For Valentine’s Day (very romantically), Ian then presented me with the DVD and a cute little box of delicious chocolates (salted caramels, my favourite). One of our lovely clients bought us an exquisitely packaged box of these chocolates a few years ago as a thank you present and so I knew that I was in for a treat as soon as I opened them!
‘Flailing music A&R man Dan Mulligan (Ruffalo) stumbles into a bar and is bowled over by heartbroken singer-songwriter Greta (Knightley). Bonding over similarly bad days, the pair decide to launch a creative project to beat the blues: an album recorded on the streets of New York ‘ Begin Again is a joyous movie about the good things in life: love, family, relationships, New York, creativity and music. And Knightley and Ruffalo make for one of the most unusual engaging couples of the year. (Empire Magazine’)
I now love to listen to the soundtrack while I’m creatively editing and album designing and although some of the tracks are definitely ‘growers’, I find others really moving and inspiring and discover that I’ve got those characteristic goosebumps as I work!
